Sculptra

A poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) collagen stimulator, Sculptra Aesthetic is different.

As a poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) collagen stimulator, Sculptra Aesthetic is different. It works with your body within the deep dermis, rather than topically, to help revitalize collagen production and help restore your skin’s inner structure and volume.1-3 As the Sculptra Aesthetic PLLA microparticles are absorbed, they help stimulate collagen production. Rebuilt collagen strands begin gradually helping to restore facial volume4 and the look of fullness to wrinkles and folds.

What is Sculptra?
Sculptra is a poly-L-lactic product that stimulates collagen improving skin and volume over time. It is not instant, but continually builds collagen.

What is Sculptra made from?
The main ingredient is a biocompatible, biodegradable synthetic material that has been used by physicians for decades.

How does the price of Sculptra compare with other anti-aging treatments?
Since Sculpture is not a filler, and the length of longevity is higher, the price is a little more expensive than that of dermal fillers.

How does Sculptra differ from dermal fillers?
Sculptra is made of lactic acid as opposed to the hyaluronic acid, which, both are natural-occurring substances, but Sculptra is to be used at a deeper layer than the other dermal fillers. What’s the advantage of that? By reconstituting or remaking the sculpture by adding fluid to it, Sculptra will give more volume to the face. So where a dermal filler will fill up wrinkles, Sculptra is really something used to augment the cheek, or really fill up substantially more areas of tissue.

What is collagen?
Collagen is the main structural protein in connective tissue. It is essential for maintaining healthy skin.

At what age should I begin getting Sculptra?
While there is no true age limits for Sculptra, we have found that younger the patient going through Sculptra injection, less vials, and less treatment injections may be needed vs. someone who is much more mature with more significantly deflated complexion where much greater volume replenishment and additional injection treatment sessions may be required. This has to do with the fact that there has to be a relatively healthy mechanism of collagen production for Sculptra PLLA to work effectively. We have found for patients in their 70′s and older, Radiesse may be more appropriate and gratifying for cheek augmentation and volume replenishment as there will be less dependence of the innate collagen production capacity.

How many treatments will I need?
On average, three injection sessions are needed over a period of a few months. The number of injection sessions and the number of injections per session vary from person to person.

How long will the results from a Sculptra treatment last?
Sculptra has been reported to last up to two years between treatments. So, that is a significant amount of time compared to some of the other dermal fillers. Yet, you do need to remember it works in a different manner in working at a deeper layer so there is a chance that it can, even though it’s supposed to last two years, some of those areas may lose volume a bit earlier.

Can you inject Scupltra when other fillers are present?
Because Sculptra works at a deeper layer than the other dermal fillers, it is a nice complement to some of those treatments. So yes, you can get Sculptra along with any of the other dermal treatments, and I think sculptra is really good for patients that are looking for facial volume, which the other fillers don’t necessarily offer.

How long will the results last?
The results obtained with Sculptra can last up to two years.

Do the injections hurt?
Dermal fillers are injected directly into the skin in tiny amounts by an ultrafine needle, resulting in minimal discomfort. To assure your comfort during the procedure, a topical or local anesthetic may be used.

What are the possible side effects?
The most common side effects are redness, swelling, and bruising. These side effects are generally mild and last a short time. All efforts will be made to decrease any discomfort and side effects. Most clients feel comfortable going back to their normal activities immediately after treatment.
