Dysport® (abobotulinumtoxinA) is an FDA-approved botulinum toxin type A neurotoxin that works through the same mechanism as Botox® and Xeomin® — temporarily blocking the nerve signal to targeted facial muscles to relax the repetitive contractions that create dynamic wrinkles — but with two clinically meaningful differences: a faster onset and a broader, more natural diffusion pattern.

Why Dysport®
Dysport® has a smaller molecular weight than Botox® and a different protein structure, which gives it two distinguishing clinical characteristics:
Faster onset — Many patients see initial results within 2–3 days, compared to 3–7 days with Botox®. This makes Dysport® a practical choice for patients with an event or timeline where faster visibility matters.
Broader diffusion — Dysport® spreads more naturally from the injection point than Botox®, which stays more localized. In larger, flatter muscle groups like the forehead, this diffusion works in the patient's favor — producing smooth, even results without the need for as many injection points. In smaller, more precise areas, this same property requires careful placement to avoid unintended muscle relaxation in adjacent areas.
Unit dosing differs — Dysport® is dosed in different units than Botox® and Xeomin®. The conversion is approximately 2.5–3 Dysport® units per 1 Botox® unit, which is why patients should never compare pricing between toxins on a per-unit basis. Dr. Ortiz accounts for this at consultation.
Results with Dysport® last approximately 3–4 months, consistent with other neurotoxins, though some patients report slightly longer duration in certain areas.
Neuromodulators
Dysport® is FDA-approved for glabellar lines and is used at DNA Wellness across the full range of neurotoxin applications — with particular strength in larger treatment areas:
Forehead lines — Dysport®'s natural diffusion makes it especially well-suited for the forehead, where smooth, even coverage across a broader muscle group is the goal. Results tend to look particularly natural and movement-preserving in this area.
Frown lines (glabella / "11s") — The primary FDA-approved indication. Vertical lines between the brows from corrugator and procerus muscle activity — a high-impact treatment area for a rested, less stressed appearance.
Crow's feet — Fine lines at the outer corners of the eyes. Placed conservatively to preserve natural expression while smoothing the skin.
Brow lifting — Lateral placement above the brow tail relaxes depressor muscles and allows the brow to lift naturally — a non-surgical elevation without incision.
Masseter reduction (jaw slimming) — Reduces masseter muscle bulk over a treatment series, softening a wide or square jawline and providing relief from bruxism and jaw tension.
Nefertiti lift — Targets platysmal bands along the neck and jawline to tighten the lower face and define the jaw-neck angle without surgery.
Lip flip — A small precise dose above the upper lip border relaxes the orbicularis oris for a subtle outward roll — a pout effect without filler volume.
Hyperhidrosis — Blocks sweat gland activation in the underarms, palms, or soles, providing significant relief from excessive sweating for 4–6 months.
The Process
Step 01 — Consultation & Assessment Dr. Ortiz evaluates your facial anatomy, muscle movement, treatment history, and goals. If you are a returning Dysport® patient or have a specific reason for preferring Dysport® over other toxins, that context shapes the conversation. You leave with a clear plan and pricing before any commitment.
Step 02 — Treatment Dysport® sessions take 15–30 minutes for most appointments. No numbing cream is required for most patients, though it is available on request. Mild redness or swelling at injection sites typically resolves within a few hours. Because of Dysport®'s diffusion pattern, precise placement by an experienced injector is especially important — Dr. Ortiz performs every injection personally.
Step 03 — Results & Follow-Up Initial results often appear within 2–3 days. Results are assessed at a 2-week follow-up to confirm dosing, symmetry, and distribution, with any minor adjustments made at that visit. Maintenance treatments are scheduled at 3–4 months.
Questions Answered
Q1: What is the difference between Dysport® and Botox®? Both are FDA-approved botulinum toxin type A neurotoxins that relax targeted facial muscles to smooth dynamic wrinkles. Dysport® has a faster onset — often visible within 2–3 days versus 3–7 days for Botox® — and a broader diffusion pattern that makes it particularly effective for larger treatment areas like the forehead. Unit dosing also differs significantly, so pricing should never be compared on a per-unit basis. Dr. Ortiz selects the right neurotoxin for your anatomy and goals at consultation.
Q2: Is Dysport® stronger than Botox®? No — it is not stronger, just dosed differently. Dysport® units are not equivalent to Botox® units; the conversion is approximately 2.5–3 Dysport® units per 1 Botox® unit. A higher unit count does not mean a stronger effect — it reflects the different potency measurement of each product. The clinical results when properly dosed are comparable.
Q3: Is treatment painful? Minimal discomfort is the accurate characterization for most injectable treatments at DNA Wellness. All fillers used at the clinic contain mepivacaine or lidocaine within the formulation, and topical numbing cream is applied before filler, thread, and microneedling treatments. Botox injections are very quick and most patients describe them as a brief pinch. For more extensive treatments — thread lifts, multi-area filler protocols, microneedling — local anesthesia and thorough topical numbing preparation significantly reduce discomfort during the procedure.
Q4: How long does Dysport® last? Most patients see results lasting 3–4 months, consistent with other neurotoxins. Some patients report slightly longer duration in certain areas, particularly the forehead. Individual metabolism, treatment area, and dosing all influence duration.
